HALF MOON BEACH As its name indicates the beach is in the shape of a half moon, as per the local residents of the town. Visitors opine that this beach is silent, calm and quiet and shy like a bride. Since the beach is away from the town and people frequently visited it in earlier days the beach got a silent remark. ( I am pointing just history of this beach about 30 years ago) But in recent times the beach has regular visits from tourists worldwide.

KOTI THEERTHA

Koti Tirtha A Holy Lake of Gokarna! Koti Theertha is a holy lake where people take bath over here and perform “karma kriya”(ritual perform after the death of a person) to find salvation for the atmas(soul). Shiva linga is emplaced in the middle of the lake. Karm Kriya is also performed at “Pitru Shala” near beach road. Every year Maha Shivaratri will be celebrated with great spirit, devotion and belief. During this period of time entire lake is decorated with flowers, and light to welcome lord Mahabaleshwara. Pilgrimages visit this holy lake to worship Lord Koteshwara every day. Boating facilities are available from the bank of the lake to Koteshwara which is situated in the middle of the lake. People are advised to take more care while bathing in the lake. Don't swim in the lake unless an until you know swimming. Follow the rules set by the local Panchayat. Keep children away from the lake. Use water only for holy dip and not for any other purposes. Maintain cleanliness.

FESTIVALS IN GOKARNA

Festival of Harvest at Gokarna Bandi Festival Suggi and Bandi habba (festival) is celebrated here by farmers of Gokarna and surrounding villages. It is a mark of happiness, blissfulness, and fun. This festival is celebrated to convey heartfelt gratitude to God and Goddesses during the harvest period (during the month of April & May). People begin decorating the town well in advance and the festival is observed for 1 whole month. They perform special puja and conduct religious functions during this period. They worship god for better rain and crops for the upcoming year. Farmers here are very strong, sincere, hard worker, co operative by nature and are active participate in all the religious activities of Gokarna. CULTURE AND COMMUNITY

Gokarna is a blend of all religions and community. All community people get together in all the festivals. They contribute their services in the name of lord Shiva in all occasions. People of Gokarna are sincere, hard worker, and trustworthy. They mix up with each other and extend their support towards the growth of community and nation. Maximum people are well educated, experts in Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda mantras. They conduct sacrificial rituals and votive rituals like Yaagam, Yagam and homam in the best interest of the community. Gokarna has a well organized Sanskrit College (Sanskrit Is one of the world’s most ancient languages and is derived from the same proto mother language as Latin and Greek, so many of the words are common. It is written in Hindi (Devanagari script) for the students who wish to persuade their knowledge in the Vedas and mantras.

How to reach Gokarna

People can reach this place by road, railway and air. There are plenty of buses run by government and special private taxis are also available to reach Gokarna. People arriving from Mangaluru or Goa can reach by Konkan Railway India. Even people who travel by air can reach Goa and should make necessary arrangements to reach Gokarna easily. The distance between Hubli and Gokarna is only 150 Kilometers. The distance between Gokarna to Mangalore is 230 Kilo meters by road and 275 Kilometers by rail. The distance between Goa to Gokarna is 145 Kilo meters and takes approximately 2.5 hrs to 3 hrs to reach the place. People can also visit the surrounding tourists’ places by hiring taxi at reasonable cost.
